The silhouette, depicting the great blue heron, a native of our East Coast shores, captures the dark rippling sandbars of the Northumberland Strait in the glorious red hues of the setting sun.
During their fifth grade, Oxford Elementary school mates, B. Calder and S. Whalen each broke an arm. (Ice and monkey bars were involved) 40 years later, S. Whalen is a respected professional photographer living in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. His photos of the Pugwash Lighthouse inspired his old school chum to once again dabble in painting.
Thank you, S. Whalen, for inspiring me!
The Michelle’s Hat Series (MHS) - B Calder has reproduced on canvas paintings from photographs her daughter M Calder has taken around Nova Scotia. A percentage of all proceeds from sales of the MHS will be donated to TN (trigeminal neuralgia) research.
B Calder began professionally painting in 2021, after being forced to retire due to a disability called Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). She has been a cottager on the Northumberland Strait for over 50 years and dreams of one day making it her permanent home.
